Over 80 iGEN volunteers clean  the coast at Bahar ic Caghaq

iGEN and its members’ commitment to corporate social responsibility has lead to some truly great initiatives recently. Volunteers from some of the leading iGaming companies in Malta are giving up their free time and giving something back to the community through major environmental clean-ups.

In April iGEN celebrated Earth Day with a major clean-up at Golden Bay, in collaboration with the Majjistral Park Rangers. Over 50 volunteers from 14 members and associated organisations collected large amounts of waste from the countryside surrounding the park, with participants from ComeOn Group, Hero Gaming, Betsson Group, Aspire Global, VideoSlots, Internet Vikings, Pariplay, Catena Media, Genesis Global, Kalamba and Games Global as well as the Malta Gaming Authority and GamingMalta plus various family and friends.

Internet Vikings CEO Peter Ekmark had this to say at the time: “There are many things one can do to improve the environment we all share, and it is extremely gratifying to make a direct and very tangible difference by taking part in the clean up events organized by IGEN.”

And on June 8th iGEN supported World Oceans Day with a clean up in Bahar ic Caghaq. More than 80 volunteers helped keep plastic & other waste materials out of the oceans by cleaning the coastline from Qalet Marku to Splash And Fun, as well as the river bed running past the village.

Participating iGEN members this time were VideoSlots, PlayNorth, ComeOn Group, Kalamba, William Hill, Pariplay, Tipico, Genesis Global, Leo Vegas, Glitnor, Relax Gaming, Betsson Group, Catena Media and Games Global, and we also had volunteers from Malta Tourism Authority and the Tourism Zone Foundation, plus a number of local volunteers, family members and friends.

‘The team at Catena Media joined in force to support the iGEN Beach Clean-up on World Oceans Day 2022. It was truly inspiring to see so many members of the Gaming Industry come together for such a great cause’ Jules Bazley, VP EMEA, Catena Media

In the blistering heat, over 70 industrial sacks of waste, plus objects such as carpets, car batteries and office furniture were collected and removed from the environment., iGEN also sponsored a sister clean-up of the seabed with volunteer divers at Xemxija, which resulted in a whole skip of waste material being removed from the sea and several sacks of plastic waste removed from the beach and kiosk area.

“Together the iGEN community really made a difference and I hope helped spread a Keep Malta Tidy message at the same time. Many thanks for organising a great event. It is just such a shame they are still needed.” David Flynn, CEO of Glitnor

iGEN, its members and partners intend to continue these CSR initiatives: next up will be an event in support of World Cleanup Day on 17th September.

Enrico Bradamante, Chairman and Founder of iGEN, commented “It’s great to see a strong participation from the iGaming industry, their employees, friends and families for these feel-good initiatives that make a real difference to the environment we all live in: driving positive change”.
